Independent by design

Edinburgh is awash with global hotel groups: polished, predictable and often the same wherever you go.

Thistle Suites was created as something different.

Independently owned and Edinburgh-based, our story begins in the 1980s, when our family first took on the building on Queen Street. Before that, it served as storage for the National Museum of Scotland. Over time, it evolved into a place to stay and today, into the Thistle Suites you see now.

From the outset, the intention has been the same: to create somewhere that feels considered, personal and connected to its surroundings.

Our approach is simple

Everything is done with purpose. We work with independent makers and collaborators, from interior designers to personal care brands, shaping a stay that feels rooted in the city and genuinely welcoming.

Hospitality, to us, should feel warm, intuitive and reliable. Present when you need it, never overbearing. It’s something we take great pride in and something our guests return for, time and again.
